Description

The Sycamore is not a native species to Ireland and was probably brought here in the 16th or 17th century. Initially used to provide shelter it has become extremely widespread and is now one of the most common trees in the country. Fully grown it is a beautiful, full canopy tree. It is a member of the Maple family and it’s timber is ideal for woodturning, making hardwearing utility pieces such as salad or fruit bowls. Culdaff House in Inishowen boasts a wonderful variety of trees and I was lucky to get this one as a victim of the recent storms.
