Sycamore Platter

The Sycamore is not a native species to Ireland and was probably brought here in the 16^th or 17^th century. Initially used to provide shelter it has become extremely widespread and is now one of the most common trees in the country. Fully grown it is a beautiful, full canopy tree. It is a member of the Maple family and it’s timber is ideal for woodturning, making hardwearing utility pieces such as salad or fruit bowls. Culdaff House in Inishowen boasts a wonderful variety of trees and I was lucky to get this one as a victim of the recent storms.
