I’m Claire Harkin, a woven textile artist from Drumfries in Inishowen, County Donegal. My journey in the world of textiles was honed at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, where I delved deep into the intricacies of woven design.

Following my studies, I embarked on a path in art teaching. However, the serene tranquility of lockdown in 2020 beckoned me back to my roots, reigniting a fervent passion for weaving that burns brighter than ever.

My creations serve as a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation, meticulously crafted using time-honoured weaving techniques on my cherished 1920s Donegal floor loom. With each intricate pattern and vibrant hue, I endeavour to push the boundaries of tapestry, weaving tales of Inishowen’s stunning landscapes and captivating natural beauty.

Drawing inspiration from the kaleidoscope of colours and textures found in our countryside, I proudly source my yarns and materials locally, with some pieces adorned with wool sheared from the very sheep grazing on our farm. Each creation is a labour of love, infused with elaborate tapestry details, hand-dyed pigments, and hand-painted motifs, ensuring that no two pieces are ever alike.

Beyond crafting my textiles, I am driven by a fervent desire to preserve Donegal’s rich weaving heritage, believing that with every stitch, “every thread weaves a different story.” Join me in celebrating the timeless art of weaving, where tradition meets innovation, and every creation is imbued with the spirit of Inishowen’s soul.
