Hi, I’m Brian. I’m originally from Dublin, but my heart has been connected to Inishowen since my early teens. I’m married to a wonderful woman from Clonmany, and it was her brother, Dermot Toland, who first introduced me to the art of woodturning back in the 1980s.
The recent pandemic brought about a significant change for us, presenting the opportunity to permanently relocate to Inishowen. This move allowed me to fulfil a long-held ambition of pursuing a creative career. My work is guided by a philosophy of simplicity, letting the wood ‘speak for itself’. Each piece I create aims to highlight the natural beauty and unique character of the timber.
I’m also an active traditional singer and musician, and I find that all my creative passions come together in my woodturning. From my studio in Meentagh Glen, Clonmany, I craft bespoke wood-turned bowls and hollow forms, using exclusively Irish timber. Whenever possible, I source my materials from Inishowen and Donegal, ensuring that each piece has a deep connection to the place I call home.
I’m passionate about creating beautiful, functional art that celebrates the rich natural resources of this stunning area of Ireland. Thank you for supporting local craftsmanship and for taking an interest in my work!
